    Description:

Aydin Aghdashloo is one of the most prominent figures in modern and contemporary Iranian art. Known for his elaborate and meticulous painting technique, he has created a body of work that is deeply influenced by the socio-political landscape of his land and at the same time is closely related to global concepts and aesthetics. His unique style draws inspiration from a wide range of sources—from European Renaissance paintings to traditional Iranian art—and transforms and redefines them in ways that are interpreted as a powerful critique of tyranny, violence, and the destruction of human beauty and dignity.
It is Aghdashloo's first international monograph published by Skira Publications in Milan and provides a comprehensive overview of nearly 200 defining works by the artist over the course of his more than six decades of continuous artistic career. The book, edited by Marco Mengotsu and Tekin Aghdashloo, includes new essays by David Anfam, Michelle Doyled, Zahra Faridani Akhavan, and Marco Mengotsu, as well as a collection of twelve previous essays on the artist written by prominent figures such as Abbas Kiarostami, Dariush Shayegan, and Bahram Beyzai.
