In reimagining the future of craft, we see it not as an added value but as an inherent part of life, a return to its original essence. We collaborate with master artisans in the MENA region, engaging in true co-creation. Embracing custom and limited-edition productions, we honor the fluidity of rare craft traditions.
We believe that at the core of craft is playfulness. Supported by our Play Studio Fund, Zah-Dei World also serves as a research space, contributing to the evolution of artistic expressions. We allocate a portion of sales to provide artisan micro-loans, fostering experimentation and evolution in traditional practices.
The Mercurial Candleholder is a playful celebration of Persian marquetry (‘Khatam-kari’), a 700-year-old rare craft tradition. In this extremely elaborate process, hundreds of pieces of wood, metal, and camel bone are carefully crafted together to produce intricate designs. Each piece can hold its own candle/tea-light, or can be stacked for a taper candlestick. Handcrafted by master artisans over a span of 50 hours, each piece is one-of-a-kind.
